Born into the beautiful landscapes that characterize life in rural Ireland, those deeply spiritual Celtic influences are unmistakably imprinted upon Ronan Doherty's sweeping melodic and inspirational music. Equally comfortable scoring for orchestra, ensemble, or choir, he arranges, records, performs, and produces all of his own compositions. As an educationalist, trombone, and keyboard player, Ronan's versatility has led to commissions as an arranger and composer both in the field of education and theatre.
Ronan Doherty has published two original stage musical productions: When Our Roads Meet Again (a study of local hiring fairs), and Child of the Snow (a collection of Sacred Christmas choral music.) As an educational practitioner, he was commissioned to write a ten minute score called "Discovery of Music and Sound" that would raise the awareness of young children to the music that permeates their immediate and wider environment. In 1999, Ronan's song for the new millennium "Trust Can Build a Dream" featured on a compilation CD sold throughout the UK, his children's choir performing on BBC National television and at the millennium Dome in London. Central to his music is an awareness that his skills in writing, arrangement, and performance are a sacred gift, and consequently he is being drawn ever more frequently towards sacred writing through Choral music and Praise and worship as he involves himself in the music ministry of his local church. As an accomplished Trombone and keyboard player, Ronan's experience as an orchestral, big band, and jazz group session musician fuses together to create a unique and versatile musical perspective.
