Philadelphia artists Rick Shaffer and Bruce Cohen, a.k.a. THE REDS®, have a unique style that blends Shaffer's short guitar with Cohen's keyboards to create a textured drone, while Shaffer's voice adds the punch and definition to their overall sound. Their music has been featured on Miami Vice, One Life to Live, and General Hospital, and has also been placed with major film companies like DeLaurentiis, Tri-Star, and New Line. With music in the Indie Rock, Electronic, and Dramatic genres, we welcome THE REDS® and their exciting array of tracks to our site!
The musical careers of Rick Shaffer and Bruce Cohen, a.k.a. THE REDS®, span three decades of critically acclaimed recording and film work, including 13 REDS albums, Film and TV soundtracks, and projects involving directors Michael Mann, Jack Shoulder, and Paul Michael Glaser.
Cohen's solo work includes writing scores for numerous theater productions at Philadelphia's Walnut Theater, and for The Pulse Theater Company in New York City. He has also released two solo albums, "One BC" (2009) and "Two BC" (2011), with tracks ranging from spacial, lush, ambient soundscapes, to metal space Funk.
Shaffer's solo projects include guitar work on Marianne Faithfull, Peter Murphy, Marc Almond, and Hilly Kristal albums. Shaffer’s own solo CD “Necessary Illusion” (2010) is a ten song neo-sixties/garage Blues excursion, with a Joe Meek and Excello Records production style. His second album, “Hidden Charms” (2011) is a proto–garage Rock/Blues style with distorted guitar and melodies buried beneath a mash-up of unadulterated garage vibe.
