Some folks say he’s a rich man, but lonely like the rest of us
They say he owns expensive cars but likes to take the bus
At night he watches tv alone without friends or family
Lord knows, he sure could use some genuine sweet company

          Or a preferred large stock holder who keeps on gettin’ fatter

            Poor Lazarus was a sick lonely man with no friends, without a home
Sittin’ outside the gate of a rich man, destitute and forlorn
When he died he went on to where the rich man forever longs to be
Lord knew, they both could use, some genuine sweet company

          You may be a wheeler an’ a dealer engaged in office power talks
          High above a homeless veteran livin’ in a cardboard box
          One thing we share in common, no matter who we happen to be
          Lord knows, we all can use some genuine sweet company

Maybe there’s a reason why the good Lord taught us all to help out our brother          
We’re in this thing called life together, dependant on each other

          So when you see a wealthy man, say “hello”, even if you’re poor
          Be kind to a lonely widow, death soon knocks at every door
          In a world short on compassion and filled with insincerity
          Lord knows, we all can use some genuine sweet company
