(I collected the instruments of life around me.)

November nights were candle lit 
My labors crept from dawn to dusk
Stole the giant from the worms

(I saw how the worm inherited the wonders of the eye and brain.)
 
In dungeon dark and lightning stained
Flesh of stone and ribs of steel
A body lay in moonlight pale both holy and obscene

(I became capable of bestowing animation upon lifeless matter.)

A Flicker in my jaundiced eyes
Crawling up from graveyard dreams

(Life and death appeared to me as boundaries to be broken.) 

Paced around my frozen cell
Traced the stars beyond the glass.
Ate my father's bitter bread, cried out for father's love
