Conductor and Composer Tarkan Songur holds an M.A degree from Eastern Illinois University, and composes music for film, theatre and Avant Garde and Minimalist music. He runs his own Music and Ballet School, conducts several orchestras in Turkey (the Bursa Symphony Orchestra and Antalya State Opera Orchestra). Tarkan also won a Composition Award from the Turkish Cultural Ministry for Salcan Sultan Ballet Music. With his enthusiasm for Minimalist and Avant Garde music, he admires John Cage, Philip Glass and Steve Reich. Tarkan is principal conductor of Istanbul Municipal Orchestra.
