Specializing in music from the Basque Country, also known as Euskadi, the MAF plays a lively style of folk music called trikitrixa, based on a diatonic accordian.
The Basques are an ethnic group living partly in France and partly in Spain in an area called the Basque Country. This is located on the Bay of Biscay, along the western edge of the pyrnees, with four provinces in Spain and three in France. Their origins are unknown and their ancestry is not related to any of their neighbours, predating even the Indo-European invasion of Europe about 2000 B.C. They speak their won language, Euskara, which is not part of the Indo-European family of languages and not related to any other language in the world. About 27% of the people speak Euskara.
