Critics have long hailed Ricky Fitzpatrick as "the next James Taylor," with a voice that's "as smooth as moonshine." Comparisons to other artists like Jim Croce, Shawn Mullins, John Denver and Bob Dylan have abounded over the years. And followers of Kottke and Fahey, or even Will Ackerman (a la Windham Hill), will no doubt gravitate to his similar, but more mellow and melodic guitar work.
Ricky Fitzpatrick’s musical career spans over 20 years, in pop, rock, country and Christian genres, performances from “Live at the Apollo” to The Bluebird Café, and over a dozen industry awards for vocal performance and songwriting. He’s also celebrated a Number One download in the UK, was named as one of the Top Ten Folk artists on Myspace, and was chosen as the 2008 GMIA Writer Relations Director for the State of Georgia.
In addition to his own musical work, Ricky runs two of his own record labels (F2 Records and RFM Music Group), posts regular offerings to his online devotional blog and still maintains an active schedule with the charitable organization that he helped to found, The Healing Power of Music.
Most of his instrumental work, is centered on the acoustic guitar, both as a solo piece and as an extensively multi-layered work. His pieces are unique in that they typically involve no other instruments other than layer upon layer upon layer of acoustic guitar, played, attacked, manipulated and combined in a variety of manners, all culminating in fascinatingly beautiful compositions.
Solo acoustic guitar, beautiful male vocal, and a chorus that sticks like Krazy Gule. An emotional, haunting story of the Kid (via one of many aliases, Patrick Henry), his thoughts, reasons and demons. A son’s love is a powerful thing. Similar to Shawn Mullins, Bob Dylan, James Taylor, John Prine. Male Vocals, Folk Music, Folk Singer-Songwriter
A light and whimsical, soothing and mellow fingerpicked acoustic guitar lullaby in four parts for infants or toddlers. Perfect for bed and naptime; children's websites or stores; children's TV, film or advertisements. Instrumental, Childrens Music, Lullabies
Multi-layered acoustic guitar instrumental, reminiscent of unplugged Allman Brothers instrumentals. Light, open and hopeful sounding. Classic lead guitar harmonies and a toe tapping melody that makes you want to kick off your shoes and enjoy the day. Instrumental, Americana Music, Americana Roots
Perfect extreme sports or Tony Robbins motivational backdrop music. High speed car chase. Over the top. Shaun White. Tony Hawk. Moby meets Joe Satriani. Hard-driving, up-tempo instrumental. Gritty guitar, gnarly solo, silver synth in the back and a rhythm that makes you want to jump up and shout! Instrumental, Rock Music, Rock Fusion
Jot Em Down is an actual area near where I grew up, down in Madison County, GA. Childhood memories of my grandparents, dirt roads, maypops, june bugs and a million other rural staples that I will always cherish, inspire me to put it all down in song. Male Vocals, Folk Music, Folk Singer-Songwriter
15 seconds in length. Acoustic guitars, light, happy and carefree in feeling. Bouncy and medium tempo’d, ala Newgrass Revival. Multi-layered acoustic guitar instrumental, ala Will Ackerman. Light and airy. Ultra smooth, relaxing and understatedly beautiful. Perfect for any setting that calls for something mellow and easy. Instrumental, New Age Music, New Age Acoustic
Ethereal and dreamy layered acoustic guitar in the “Windham Hill” style. Perfect for lullaby, relaxation, meditation and soothing moods. Instrumental, New Age Music, New Age Acoustic
Steel string, acoustic guitar-based and multi-layered. Seven tracks in all of acoustic guitar, and nothing else. Inspired by listening to a variety of Mozart and Beethoven type lullabies for my seven month old son, Jude, who happens to love this song. Instrumental, Classical Music, Classical Guitar
Three acoustic guitars in four tracks. I imagine a twig or something floating in the water, around the last bend before the shoals thin out and get fast, bobbing around and building. Then churning through the choppy waters, tumbling and finally coming back to a calm as the water mellows back out. Instrumental, Folk Music, Finger-Picked Guitar
