Traditional and original Irish songs and dance tunes on acoustic and electronic instruments Nine Mile Burn has been performing in the Midwest since 1993.
Current instrumentation is Bill Banks-Guitar, Mandolin, Mandocello and Bass Guitar Rebecca Pringle- Fiddle, Mandolin and Bass Guitar Denise Reid-Shaff-Bouzouki and Mandolin Tims Zans-Guitar and Bass Guitar.
Some of their concerts and dance venues have included Brookside Irish Festival Kansas City Irish Festival Kansas City Highland Games, River Queen Casino-St. Louis, Mo. Antiques on the Commons-Greenwood, Mo.
McBride's-Overland Park, Ks. O'Dowd's Little Dublin, Border's Books, Missouri Town. Contra dances in Kansas City and Independence, Missouri. Contra dances in Merriam, Wichita and Lawrence, Kansas. Nine Mile Burn has also performed for weddings, parties and any function where listening, dancing or background music is desired.
Nine Mile Burn is a tune which borrows it's name from a Scottish town, so named because it is located on a river 9 miles from Edinborough Castle. It is also rumored that the name refers to the English practice of burning everything in a nine mile radius after sacking a town or village (we understand this is no longer done). From what we know, this does not appear to be true.
Nine Mile Burn's self titled CD is a lively collection of all instrumental traditional and contemporary jigs, reels and waltzes. The combination of acoustic and electric instruments give this traditional music genre a completely unique sound and feel.
