ATTN: WASHINGTON, DC -- After a successful run in Berkeley, Molière’s "#Tartuffe" is playing through July 5 at the Shakespeare Theatre at Sidney Harman Hall, in DC, with a run time of 2.5 hours. Here's a link to check it out and grab a ticket: http://www.shakespearetheatre.org/tickets/all_tix.aspx
Performed in April by Berkeley Rep, Tartuffe’s dark comedy is a take on Religious Hypocrisy, and stars Steven Epp. Also called “The Impostor” or “The Hypocrite,” Wiki says the play is considered the “most famous of Moliere’s theatrical comedies” – a deliciously intense, entertaining play, described by TalkinBroadway.com “As spellbinding as a deadly snake charmed from a basket.”
For their promos, Berkeley Rep licensed Andrea Ravizza’s over-the-top #Baroque “Danse Baisse,” first performed around the same time as Moliere tossed “Tartuffe” (1664) onto the stage. Turn up your speakers, sit back and take a wild ride with Andrea's tour de force: Danse Baisse
In the promo above, Tony Taccone discusses the cast, the play, and the French Director Dominique Serrand (so beloved as both an Actor and Director, he was knighted by the French Government in the Order of Arts and Letters). Long a favorite Berkeley Rep Director, here’s a link to Mr. Serrand’s impressive bio: http://americanrepertorytheater.org/person/dominique-serrand
