I'll Tell God You Said Hi
I was watching the show “Kids Say the Darndest Things”. Going through my mind was what might a kid say to an adult that would be interesting. Having a background as a Nutritionist, I would come across children with terminal conditions. In a flash, the phrase "I'll Tell God You Said Hi" came to me.

Verse One
I was bored at a work convention
‘Til the speaker caught my attention
With what he did in his spare time
Visiting sick children
With terminal conditions
I decided to give it a try
Met this great kid, and formed a bond instantly
Y’know kids say the darndest things
And this one really got to me
He said:
Chorus
I'll tell God you said hi
And though you said you don’t pray much
You're really a good guy
He’ll understand why you been out of touch
And if you’ve been meaning to write
And want to believe with all your might
He can make everything all right
I'll tell God you said hi
Verse Two
He spoke of dying
Heaven, angel wings, and flying
Said he’d be living in the sky
I wasn't sure what to say
I’d kinda lost my way
And hadn’t talked to God in a while
He smiled and said that’s okay he can see
You had other stuff to do
But now you’re spending time with me
And
Repeat Chorus
Bridge
Then one morning they said he wouldn’t make it through the day
In his room I cried and softly touched his head
His hands pressed together in his final prayer
Held a note that read
Chorus and tag

Extended Keywords: Song Origin I was in an online class through the virtual songwriting education community. An assignment was to come up with a unique lyrical title that posed a question. “I’ll Tell God You Said Hi” actually started out as a title posing a question. Originally it was called “Should I Tell god You Said Hi?” I had been watching the show “Kids Say the Darndest Things” a lot with my kids at the time. Going through my mind was what might a kid say to an adult that would be interesting. Having a background as a Nutritionist, I sometimes had come across children with terminal conditions. In one particular moment while sitting on the couch, the phrase “should I tell God you said hi” came to me. John Wesley Coutts (from Scotland) was taking the class with me. He was “moved” by the title we spoke after the class had ended. He asked me if I would like to take this title and write the song together
