Look across this land of dreams, where nothing’s quite the way it seems
one man, one vote, everybody counts, not in this democracy
look across this land of schemes, where once there was a hopeful dream
lady liberty, from sea to shining sea

Listen and watch the people’s airwaves and the flapping mouths of the corporate slaves
where songs and shows and thoughts are programmed, free from truth
dissention’s simply watered down or never heard or seen at all
the TV said we’re the freeist of the free

Look across this land of green, where once the people dared it seems
to believe our representatives, represented hopes and dreams
then, look across this land of fences, cameras, wiretaps and fluoridated senses 
from genocide to manifest destiny
and show me, ‘cause I can’t see the freedom for the free

Listen for the bells of freedom, tell me now if you still hear
any sign of liberty, anything but, fear
listen for the words of hope, in our twilight’s last gleaming
and show me where that vision used to be

Look across this land of police, prison yards and corporate disease
where individuals are taken away, so as not to disturb the peace
look across this land of roads and plastic goods and poison seeds
where nothing is the way it’s supposed to be
I can’t see the freedom for the free

Look across the fields of hope, where millions died and patriots screamed
for better lives for future men and the pursuit of happiness and dreams
watch the flag be torn to shreds and the constitution left for dead
and tell me of this dream called liberty
