American, Dreamin’

Well I was born at the end of the innocent age
One dead president turned the page.
Till ’64 we thought we had it all,
Then the American dream became hard to recall.

So now I push the button, pull the chain,
Flip through the channels and rot my brain.

To a time where things’ll get a little better someday,
Maybe things’ll get a little better.

I wanna take my girl to a Rockwell world,
Find a little house, a sleepy town.
I wanna hear Paul Harvey on the radio, 
Tellin’ how the dream has come back around….

We gotta wake up before we hit the bottom
Gotta keep our feet on the ground.
But the headline read, and the magazine said
Lord it’s hard to keep the devil down.
