I left home while the other two stayed back
It ‘s just a matter of time
Before she leaves with some practical goals
Slightly different than mine

Maybe she could fly
The mountains aren’t so high
Each one heads farther south than the last
Trying to make better time

I went down to the river and kneeled and prayed
And I washed seven times in the mud
Then I crossed the river but I looked back
As the flames took the home that I loved

The next one left for the biggest of cities 
(where’d he go?)
Where smoke hangs in the air
He hasn’t, as yet, quite cut all the strings, though
We still send water down there

Maybe if we tried
We could find out why
He left the hills for the valley of fire
Where the worm never dies

And was descended on by a dove
