Slang Junkies

Home: Fall River, Ma USA

In the late 90's through the 2000 era the sound and attitude of hiphop seemed to split. To the left, went artists who were more concerned with making people dance and focussing on the material aspects of success. As time passed with these artists lyrical content slowly faded, edged out in favor of catchy sing-a-long choruses and monotonous but infectious beats. To the right, went artists who were more concerned with preserving hiphop's cultural values. These artists ended up taking the music in a more experimental "abstra

Enter the Slang Junkies. Meeting at a young age as regulars at local open mics and hiphop events; emcees Anime and Animal Cracka developed a mutual respect that grew into friendship. The two continued paying dues through the years, and kept in touch even as Animal Cracka joined the Navy and traveled the world. The frequent telephone conversations between them during this time would strengthen their bond and unite their vision as artists. When Cracka was discharged from service, it only made sense that they would begin hitting the studio together in search of creating what was in their opinion good hip hop music. Dope beats, dope rhymes, and an energy packed live performance. The results of this era was a mixtape entitled "Tastes Like Burning" under the name "The Junkbots". That mixtape created a serious local buzz for the two, however, Anime's moving to Florida would leave both persuing solo ventures. Fast forward to 2008; with Anime returning to his home state of Massachusetts, the two find themselves reunited. Older, wiser, and with solo achievements under both of their belts. They had learned to stand on their own as solo artists, but felt they could impact hiphop and the world greater as a group. Animal Cracka's street views and gritty bluntness, combined with Anime's witty wordplay and introspective outlook formed a balanced seldom seen since the heyday of groups like Outkast and Mobb Deep. United in the purpose of bridging the gap these artists didn't turn left or right. They continued trooping straight on course; representing the past, present, and what the future of hiphop could be.
