Christmas Lullaby

She was led into a stable where she laid her body down
Cold and dim, just her and him it wouldn't be long now
Although the pain took her breath away despite her suffering
With a smile fixed upon her face she brought forth a king

When Joseph placed the newborn in her arms, she stroked his hair and kissed his nose
She examined every inch of him counting fingers and his toes
As Mary drew the Christ child to her breast he began to cry
So with a voice so tender, soft and sweet she sang this Christmas Lullaby

Go to sleep my precious baby soon visitors will come
And you'll be worshiped by the world as the chosen Holy one
You were given to us as a gift to restore peace hope and joy
But remember in your mommy's heart you're still my little boy

And it came to pass the years flew by that boy was now a man
Well aware of his fate according to God's plan
On the day they crucified her Lord she watched her baby die
And as her Savior took his final breath she sang this Christmas Lullaby

Go to sleep my precious baby your work on earth is done
You have done what you were sent to do as the chosen Holy one
You gave your life so graciously to restore peace hope and joy
And as you take your place at your father's side you're still my little boy
