Música Sertaneja or Sertanejo is a term for Brazilian country music. It originally referred to folk music originating among Sertão, as well as Musica Caipira. Caipira music appeared in the state of São Paulo, and some regions of Mato Grosso do Sul, Goiás Minas Gerais, Paraná and Mato Grosso. Recently, a variation called "Sertanejo Universitário" has become popular because of its danceable rhythms and catchy lyrics.
