Elvis Presley became the leading figure of the newly popular sound of rock and roll with a series of network television appearances and chart-topping records. Blues, Rockabilly, Jazz, Cool Jazz, Bebop, Hard Bop and Doo Wop and American Folk music also were prominent in the 1950s.
