Q.  In music rights what is the difference between an "assignment", a "transfer", and a "license"?

A.  Music rights refer to the ownership and control over a musical composition and its use. An assignment, transfer, and license are three different ways in which the rights over a musical composition can be transferred or granted to another party. Here's a brief explanation of each of these terms:

Assignment: An assignment is a transfer of ownership of a musical composition from one party (the assignor) to another party (the assignee). This transfer is a permanent and unconditional transfer of all rights in the composition, and the assignee becomes the new owner of the rights.

Transfer: A transfer is similar to an assignment, but it may not be a permanent transfer of all rights. A transfer of rights in a musical composition can include a transfer of the entire copyright or only a portion of it.

License: A license is a permission granted by the owner of a musical composition to another party to use the composition in a specific manner and for a specific period of time. A license does not transfer ownership of the composition, but rather allows the licensee to use the composition in accordance with the terms of the license agreement. The owner of the composition retains ownership and control over the composition and can license it to multiple parties.
