Doing nearly 80 down route 1 south      E
Day old coffee spilling out my mouth     E
Very late for work for the 20 something’th time    A
Very low on gasoline and not so hi on loving life   E
Out standing on the shoulder.. One sorry little tune    B
Hitchhiking in November like it was the end of June   E

Just a pale red sweater in 13 pale degrees 
While her tight white capris barely made it to her knees
It was the day before of thanksgiving I was feeling kinda lame
That I didn’t have no sugar to play no parlor games
So I pulled it on over for the truck stop ahead
And waved her right on in with words I never said

The homie at the station tries to wave me off    AE(stop)
Like it’s a big blunder and I gotta be soft     AE(stop)
But laughing as I do I slide my junker to his pump    AE
Watch the state police stage a three car jump    F# B

I crack my door slowly and skirt around the fat one
Excuse myself and ask the man to fill ‘er up for fun
The cops start asking questions like how I know this girl 
I say damn you seen it all, it’s a cold cold world
Just then I recollect the stash that’s in the trunk 
And my attitude weakens right along with my spunk

Now I wanted to be honest, and I said Christ aint no decree
Against helping out some hitcher in a pile of need
So I told em, I do not know her, but you can see she’s freezing 
Aint you ever been cold? It’s the day before thanksgiving 

Now tell me what she’s done? They answered can’t you see 
That whore is on the junk she‘ll stick a needle in your knee
I said get a grip you guys, she’s lookin fairly feeble
And we finally drove off... without no sticking needle
