Determined little Phoebe Jay
Decided to leave home one day
And packing up her tiny things
She left for parts unknown

Mathilda Jay, her mother, now
And Gibbelup, the pauper cow
Exclaimed while searching house and yard
“We’ll leave no turn unstoned!”

When darkness came and went away
And still no sign of Phoebe Jay
Gibbelup and Tillie, well, they
Saddled up the roan

They thought a likely place to look
Would be the Town of Pookie Nook
For there, they say, a youthful jay
Can make its way alone

By suppertime, they reached the Nook
And there with such a lonely look
They saw their little Phoebe Jay
Ready to come home

In time things work out for the best
And little wings do want a test
But now she knows her cozy nest
Is best until she’s grown
