WHERE WOULD WE BE?

Well, that rope still hangs where an old tire once swung out in the yard
Surrounded by empty fields where daddy struggled long and hard
Boarded up windows hide where mama worked her fingers to the bone
And for me this long treasured place will always be home

          Must be a reason why there's so many songs about back home
          Why our minds drift back to simple times when we're down and all alone
          Why our hearts reach for memories of loving security

Today, with space technology we can see our world all lit up at night
With millions of families squeezed beneath a billion bright city lights
Where we spend long days far apart and evenings glued to computer screens
As home sweet home fades with our hopes and dreams

          Must be a reason why there's so many songs about back home
          Why our minds drift back to simple times when we're down and all alone
          Why our hearts reach for memories of loving security

There must be a reason why we call God in heaven our father
And why the way to honor him is to spread around some love for each other
