After sleeping a few hours
In the back seat of my car
I checked myself into a North Sioux motel
A wise man told me:
"Don't stop, just keep going
if you're going through hell."
And you don't need to be hungry
To starve for something inside
I found that out the hard way
After I set out for this ride

And it's a half day trip back to Chicago
Where I was born & raised
But I guess it's gonna take a few more days

Credit card denied everywhere I go
And I'm about forty dollars short 
Of having eight bucks to my name
Tried to pass a check, but out of state, no luck
And as the time slips away down the river
I see my life flash before my eyes

So I guess I'll go back home
Then I packed my car and set my alarm for five
And I headed 20 east about six AM
Outta cash & runnin' on fumes
But my car broke down somewhere in the middle of nowhere
Now there's nothing left to lose

And it's a half day trip back to Chicago
Back to more familiar ways
But it looks like I'm gonna stay a few more days...
