Been so long since I told my story out loud
And I hope I still remember

Long ago we rode the wind on horseback and we
Moved our camp and let the seasons show the way

We belonged to a homeland
Spreading out in four directions
Bounded by the homelands of our
Sisters and our brothers

We never owned the sacred ground
Where our feet were running
Learned all we could to get along
Within nature’s plenty

We grew crops mostly winter squash, maize and beans
Those companions helped eachother

We were clans named after
Wolf, hawk, bear or turtle 
All were sacred and had
Special meaning for us 

We would live in wigwams
Others lived in longhouses
We would trade in wampum
Beads made from the shells of quahog

We never owned the sacred ground
Where our feet were running
Learned all we could to get along
Within nature’s plenty
