My father still remembers, from the age of four
Gazing down from the 14th floor
He lived the city life til he was called to war
Headed off to Viet Nam
When he came back stateside, chose a simple life
A hundred miles away from the city strife
Met my mom who soon became his wife
Started living the dream that he planned

Like most of my buddies from back in the day
I couldn’t wait to break out, to just run away
My mama begged me through tears
Trying to get me to stay
But I blew away like the wind
But the great big world was not as great as it seemed
The pot of gold an illusion it seemed
So I headed home at the age of 19
Realized back then what I am

Doing the best that I can

Now I see much more than I did before
