He was a quiet boy with no thoughts of fighting,
But time to take a stand.
Stop spinning wheels and break his old habits,
Go off to be a man.

While other kids went to school and they partied,
My boy went to war.
Standing straight and tall, his confidence growing,
Not a quiet boy anymore.

Our country’s mission soon became his passion,

They fought there side by side.

But then his letters and his phone calls changed,
And then there were no more.

Then a knock on our front door.

The soldier held his hat and bowed his head,
Then sad eyes looked at me.
I said, “Please say my boy is alright.”
And he got down on one knee.
