Q.  Can I license cover songs and public domain songs here at AudioSparx?

A.  The short answer is for cover songs, no you can't license them here, and for public domain songs, yes you can license them here.  Here are additional issues below to consider for each of these types of music works.

COVER SONGS

Please do not upload cover versions of songs that are still under publishing control by some third-party unless the third-party has licensed you the rights to cover their song(s) AND (most important) including the right to sublicense the cover song(s) for any type of commercial projects and productions without the need to pre-clear each license that we would issue as clients license tracks on AudioSparx.

In general, we do not allow cover songs to be published here since you don’t control the publishing for such songs and we cannot place a commercial license on an on-demand basis since any such license would have to be pre-cleared with the original publishers on a license-by-license basis.

PLEASE NOTE:  A license from Harry Fox nor EasySong generally does NOT provide authorization to create cover songs for commercial sub-licensing, only for releasing your cover song remakes on consumer music listening sites such as Spotify, Apple Music, etc.

PUBLIC DOMAIN SONGS

You can upload to AudioSparx remakes of compositions which have entered into the public domain.
Public domain songs are, in general, among our best-selling works since they are well-known songs for which there is a substantial commercial demand.  This includes various different types of music including:
  • Classical music from all the old famous composers (e.g. Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, etc)
  • Many traditional Christmas songs (Jingle Bells, Deck The Halls, etc.)
  • Some great Jazz songs which have entered the public domain.
  • Some great old Pop songs which have entered the public domain

There are a few things to carefully consider:

1.  Make sure to first research the composition you are interested in recreating to ensure that it is, in fact, a public domain track.  Don't assume any song is "PD" because this can lead to costly legal mistakes and waste your time creating a version of a song that is not yet in the public domain.  See this article for more details:

How can I find out if a song is in the public domain?

2.  After uploading a PD track to AudioSparx, make sure to configure the Composers field correctly.  This article explains how:
