Covid-19

Well it seems like we have never been knocked down like this before
Feels just like the devil must be knocking at our door
The streets are like a ghost town, and there’s always more bad news
What’s a soul to do to shake these blues

But there’s still food in the cupboard, and family close at hand
Loads of toilet paper, and friends who understand
I know that folks are nervous, hanging on to every dime
But this ain’t no prison, we can choose how to spend our time

We can negotiate with that man upstairs
We can communicate with a friend who really cares
We can perseverate, and concentrate
On who is blaming who
Or we can appreciate the things we never do

The other night, me and my family went out for a long walk
It seems like it’s been years and years since we all had time to talk
Between school and sports and work and stress, time just slips away
The years get eaten up just day by day

Now clearly this is a tragedy and we still got a ways to go
And just how great our loss will be, there’s no way we can go
But someday we’ll look back on this from the other side
Our only choice is how we approach the ride

We can intoxicate, try to ride the stupor through
We can decompensate; we can be that person who
Tries to illuminate, enumerate all the ways that we’ve been screwed
Or we can appreciate the things we never do

We can assimilate, we can try to make a plan
We can illuminate the suffering best we can
We can collaborate, maybe change our fate, and let our better selves come through
We can cooperate and hope we make it through
I’m gonna cooperate and pray we all get through
