To Keep From Going Insane

In my early twenties I was a mixed up young man
Lost in the swirl of a million emotions I did not understand
I was goin’ crazy goin’ through change after change after change
So, I drank a lot of whiskey to keep from going insane

`round when I turned thirty I felt so lost and confused
`cause there wasn’t one single thing in this world I could hold onto
I was wondering why and searching for somebody who could explain
So, I saw psychiatrists to keep from going insane

But the whiskey gave me hangovers and the shrinks just sent me bills
After too many drinks and too many dollars I had my fill
I was looking for something to lean on and finally I started to see
What I've always longed for is here inside of me

As I walk my path now I'm blessed with good friends like you
Who taught me when life's troubles show up there's a way I can get through
So when my problems get to me, when I start feelin’ the strain
I close my eyes and pray to keep from going insane
