Just Between Us and the Fencepost

I know enough to keep my mouth shut
to leave all these thoughts deep inside
But sometimes the things that you don't say
end up running your life

So, just between us and the fencepost
There's a girl down the road I cotton to
I'm gonna rustle up the nerve to say to her
I wanna ride across the prairies with you

I saw her cloggin' at the state fair
Hers is a joyful dance
It kicked up all these feelin's inside me
Now I'm feeling like I'm gonna have to take me a chance

She's got me dreamin' of calico and gingham
and practicin' the words I'm gonna say

She rides a good lookin' paint
