They Don’t Know

They’ve been givin’ me clichés and lines like:  “All is vain”, and “love is blind”, 
and “how could a woman like you love a man like me”, 
They keep sayin’ things like “fools rush in”, that “beauty doesn’t go deeper than skin”, 
But all these sayings, they don’t apply to me,  

‘Cause they don’t know you, and they don’t love you 
They never saw your eyes when the tears came melting through, 
They never held you, they never fell for you 
And they don’t miss you, but I do 

They say, “absence helps the heart”, and “it such sweet sorrow when you have to part”, 
That “all good things must one day come to an end.” 
They say, “its better to love and lose”, and “you live and learn”, and “you pay your dues”, 
Then “you pick yourself back up and you try again”,  
  
they didn’t tease you, they didn’t leave you, 
They’re not down on their knees, beggin’ you to take’m back 
They don’t know you, they never kissed you baby, 
They don’t need you, but I do, 

And after all’s been said and done, hey babe I bet you know I’m not the only one, 
Just to pack up all my bags and head it on down the road, 
I had to find out who I am, and I’m a lonely boy that wants to be your man, 
And if you take me back, we’ll show them what they don’t know 

And they don’t know you, they don’t breathe you 
They don’t wake up in the middle of the night and call your name 
They’re not lonely, they’re not dyin’, 
They don’t miss you honey, but I do 

They don’t need you baby, but I do, 
They don’t need you, but I do
