Slang Junkies
Country: USA
In the late 90's into the 2000 era the sound and attitude of hip hop seemed to split. To the left, went artists more concerned with making people dance and focusing on the material aspects of success. As time passed, lyrical content slowly faded, edged out in favor of catchy sing-a-long choruses and monotonous but infectious beats. To the right, went artists more concerned with preserving hip hop's cultural values. These artists took their the music in a more experimental "abstract" route, focusing on complex rhyme structures and heavy; Slang Junkies took the latter route.
