North Wind


I have felt the North Wind
Whistle through the air
Cutting through my overcoat
Strip the branches bare
Felt its harshness on me
Turned my heart as cold as steel
Lost my dreams in a barren land where nothing there is real

I have felt the burning sun
Searing skin and air
Sapping all my energy
Drying out my hair
Felt its dryness in my mouth
As I blink beneath its rays
A burned out wreck with a busted deck and nothing left to say

But I can’t live where the sun don’t shine
And I’m drowning in the pouring rain
What I’d give to get lost in time
Like the brother of a fallen Cain
Leaning hard against a hurricane
And a hoar frost chills my bones
Turn my face to the wind again
With hands as cold as stone

But I have seen a flower grow
Beneath the winter sun
Press its face towards the sky
Before the day is done
Such a delicate embrace
As it blossoms before my eyes
Life and hope will come again and tomorrow I will rise
