Since the 1980s, US artist Jim Ragland has been composing and producing incidental, scene change and underscoring music for the professional theater. Projects have included tiny fringe theaters as well as The Kennedy Center. Credits include the Pulitzer Prize-winning Broadway production, "The Kentucky Cycle," and 100s of other shows - like Shakespeare, Chekhov, August Wilson, and Sam Shepard. With dozens of Spotlight Awards from The Seattle Times, a Lifetime Achievement Award from Theater Puget Sound, Variety says: “[Jim Ragland] creates worlds that capture the imagination."
Jim Ragland creates music that is perfectly aligned with a project's story line, and is a genius at combining styles, ethnicities and periods to come up with something that sounds familiar and catchy, but is still original.
Beautiful tender beginning then moves into playful elegant orchestral music. Mischievous, a bit dramatic in a sweet way. Romantic comedy, new beginnings, falling in love. High fashion, limo cruising, Hollywood nights, rich and luxurious, kitchy, happy. Great for films like The Artist, kids animation, Instrumental, Dramatic, Broadway
A warm whistful nostalgic mellow ragtime piece for clarinets, euphonium (little tuba), and marimba. Composed for a bio pic about The Wright Brothers. Great for 1890-1920. A little BBC-ish, Instrumental, Dramatic, Whimsical Music
A stately thoughtful old-fashioned piece for piano, brass, clarinet and flute. The ending turns sad. Sounds like it could be in Ragtime. Originally composed for a bio pic about The Wright Brothers, Instrumental, Dramatic, Contemplative Music
A shimmerinig viola and acoustic guitar over a tropical percussion track. Slightly mysterious and elegant. Would make a great theme for an NCIS Miami segment. Sounds like a scene shot from the air. Instrumental, Dramatic, Smooth Music
A sexy, slow but strong, vampy transition, ending, or dramatic turn with a sqwaking trumpet in the lead, piano, bass & drums. Composed for a production of an August Wilson play, Instrumental, Blues, East Coast Blues
Slightly fruity, dignified, maybe even stuffy, somewhat cartoony piece for piano and pizz strings. Nice melody, very catchy, nice humorous touch. Pantomimish, touch of BBC, Instrumental, Classical, Romantic
An ironic, tongue-in-cheek divorce song. They are dividing up the belongings, and he would like his heart back if she's done with it (and leave the Willie Nelson CDs too), Male Vocals, Country, Classic Country
A bright, cheerful violin melody over a Broadway-style 30's piano. Very stylish and elegant, evokes beautiful people in evening gowns and tuxedos getting into expensive cars. Great commercial music for luxury products like perfume, cars. Instrumental, Dramatic, Whimsical Music
