Last stages of life, starvation, death camps, Holocaust, destructive tsunami or cyclone. Contemplating suicide, military rituals, burying dead soldiers, heroes maimed in war, surveying aftermath of major battles, major loss and destruction, etc. (Does NOT include Romantic Breakup music)
The soprano sax is the perfect solo instrument to carry such a somber tune. The backing orchestra does not detract from this feeling but instead serves to introduce the bittersweet atmosphere and support it.
