1960s music is marked by the "British invasion" of American music. This refers to the numerous British groups who emerged during the early 1960s, spearheaded by the Beatles. Motown produced many R&B classics from their strong stable of vocal groups, songwriters and musicians. 1960s pop music was focused around new young "vocal" groups. The mid to later 1960s brought major social changes as a result of sexual liberation and widespread drug use, with music evolving towards Psychedelic Rock with later albums from the Beatles and music from artists such as Jimi Hendix and Jim Morrison of the Doors. |
