On the Streets of New Orleans

This feels like something between torture and bliss
Never seen moonlight bend shadows like this
Walk down that alley, I may never come back
Could be one step too many, and the demons attack
I just don’t know

The barking of Hellhounds descends in my ears
Then changes to voices of angels so clear
Is this the ending I dread or a beginning?
Am I already dead?
The moments pass so slow

Now and then I am spared with a moment of peace
The violence of pressure is relieved by release
Those hands grip so tightly ‘round my throat
And then they just let go

The morning arrives and I hear the bells chime
And i sense a return now of people and of time
These are things I recall
