Renowned California pianist Bevan Manson plays masterfully, in a manner reminiscent of the great Bill Evans, while Ron Ermini's compositions bring an exciting vibrancy to these great American Jazz Standards. Whether improvising solo Puccini sketches (simply gorgeous!), or heading a classy ensemble or backing a Jazz Vocalist, Bevan repeatedly demonstrates why he is considered one of the world’s greatest Jazz pianists. “A superb pianist…imaginative yet accessibible."- Boston Globe. We think you'll agree!
Pianist Bevan Manson recently resigned his post as Director of Jazz Ensembles at the University of California, Berkeley, to move to Los Angeles. He was born in Chicago and raised in New York, where he studied with Maria Luisa Faini at the Eastman School of Music, and Ray Wright of Radio City Music Hall fame, plus Jazz icon Bill Dobbins. Bevan has performed throughout the country and in Europe, including the San Francisco Jazz Festival, Boston Globe Jazz Festival, Tirano Jazz Festival, and others. During his career, he performed with some of our greatest Jazz figures, including Gunther Schuller, Bob Brookmeyer, and Howard McGhee.
Bevan’s flawless and often dazzling keyboard technique projects a Debussy-like transparency with harmonic richness, producing tenderly expressive and joyful musical excursions colored by improvisational dialogues that abound in richly sensitive ideas. Whether playing solo, supporting vocalists, or driving small combos in any musical style: Standards, Latin, Progressive, Straight-ahead Jazz, or Classical, it is readily apparent, as the Boston Globe wrote, that Bevan is “A superb pianist…imaginative yet accessible.”
