Pat Lajoie
Australian composer and guitarist Patrice Lajoie captures the various emotional nuances in musical form, creating compositions that are both compelling and sensitive. As an accomplished songwriter, Patrice also writes music for film and TV, creating evocative atmospheres to support either dialogue or cinematic action on the big screen. As an artist, Patrice works in a number of exciting genres, including Dramatic, Jazz, Urban, Street, and Brazilian Sambas and Bossa Novas.
Patrice Lajoie's musical journey started at the age of 13. At that time after discovering the guitar for the first time his main influences were rock and roll mega bands like Deep Purple, Led Zepplin, Cream, Jeff Beck and the Jimi Hendrix Experience. However at the age of 15, after hearing George Benson's version of "This Masquerade," Patrice got switched on to jazz guitar and started buying albums by George Benson, Wes Montgomery, Jim Hall, Tal Farlow and later Pat Metheny Group, Mike Stern, John Scofield, Bill Frisell, and John Abercrombie.
At 17, Patrice began formal scholarly studies in jazz guitar, continually honing his compositional skills. In 1998, he released his debut CD of original modern jazz music featuring some of Melbourne, Australia's finest jazz improvisors. A personal highlight for Patrice was to have his music played on the Australian ABC radio national program, which is transmitted country-wide.
Currently Patrice is one of the most sought after jazz guitarists on the Melbourne jazz scene. He regularly performs solo and with his trio at Dizzy's Jazz Club.
