Californian Brian Hazard, the artist behind the Electronic project Color Theory, grew up listening to The Cure, Depeche Mode, and The Smiths. The brooding undercurrent of heartbreak, suffering, and alienation never brought him down. He found it oddly comforting, even uplifting. His songs explore the pleasure in sadness through the distinctive brand of melancholy Synthwave, resulting in intensely personal and highly emotive tunes. With a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance, he left Beethoven to pursue his inspiration.
A deep dive into the paradox of the human mind and our perception of safety and danger. Elements of 1980s synthwave, post-punk and darkwave with a drum and bass chorus. Male Vocals, Pop, Synthpop
Lyrically hyperbolic yet infectious love song in the vein of the 1980s Modern English classic "I Melt With You." Retro-nostalgic synthpop with syncopated unison hits, rich vocal harmonies, and piano. Male Vocals, Pop, Synthpop
An exploration of loneliness, desire, and the search for authenticity in an increasingly artificial world. The lyrics follow a protagonist entwined in a romantic relationship with a robot. 1980s synthwave darkwave like Depeche Mode with hints of early Peter Gabriel. Male Vocals, Pop, Synthpop
An exploration of the otherworldly quality of the predawn hours, especially after a drink or two. The world is cast in softened lines and gentle shapes, and far-off buildings shimmer with an almost magical glow. In 7/4, 6/8 and eventually 4/4. Synthwave darkwave like Depeche Mode, The Midnight. Male Vocals, Pop, Synthpop
The allure of potential and the thrill of the moment intertwine, as emotions are captured like photographs. “The Darkroom” explores the intensity of momentary passions and the dance between desire and expression. 1980s synthpop with hints of progressive house, peppered with samples from a camera. Male Vocals, Pop, Synthpop
Happily ever after? There’s no such thing. A haunting exploration of love's inevitable decay and the fleeting nature of all things. Darkwave post-punk synthwave with hints of early Cure, Nation of Language, Empathy Test. Thick slightly dissonant male harmonies reinforce the lyrical theme. Male Vocals, Pop, Synthpop
A love song with troubled undertones like The Police’s “Every Breath You Take” that delves into the psyche of a man who is enamored with a woman who doesn't take their relationship seriously. 1980s synthpop with male vocals and piano in the vein of Owl City, The Postal Service. Male Vocals, Pop, Synthpop
A song to celebrate the one you never truly let go of. You've been apart for a long time, yet you still see them everywhere... or is it a trick of the light? Haunting post-punk darkwave, medium tempo with piano. Male Vocals, Pop, Synthpop
Any important relationship involves conflict. Wrath is about the sort of stormy alliance that somehow works in its own dysfunctional way, building up rather than tearing down both parties. 1980s synthwave retrowave synthpop with piano and a Martin Gore-ish breakdown section. Male Vocals, Pop, Synthpop
