Based in South Africa, Mike Laatz is a saxophonist who specializes in relaxing, laid-back Jazz tunes. With a sound that's been described as a cross between Stan Getz and Ben Webster, he has recorded several CDs, three of which have been featured as "CD of the Week" on various radio stations. For soothing, mellow, or romantic music, Mike works with pianists Andrew Ford or Eddie Kirkwood, who both play Gene Harris/Oscar Petersen-stye "tinkly" piano. He usually adds a solid double-bass player and gentle drummer, and sometimes even strings.
Typical gypsy music, with a rich violin solo over driving gypsy rhythm guitars and double bass. Sounds like Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grapelli (Hot Club de France).
