It heavily utilizes percussion instruments such as timbales, congas, bongo, maracas, etc. and also other instruments such as guitars, synthesizers, steel drums and so on. Tropical is a catch-all term for modernized Latin music emanating from the Caribbean. Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia, Rumba and Cha Cha are the most popular Tropical subgenres, although there are many others as well.
