Where Do I Sign?

I’ve spent all these years independent of the man
been free to crawl, knees and belly, feet and hands
but, all the scraping and the clawing and the hoping
have left me now so resigned and quite inclined to say
won’t you help me Mr Satan, if you don’t mind
where do I sign?

I’ll do whatever you say
just make these daydreams go away
take the colors, fade to gray
it’s time for me to pay and pay and pay

Dreams will get you nowhere
and hope will lead you to despair
I’m guilty of believing until yesterday
when I saw the future coming round to say

I’ve spent all these years…
