Producer/Re-mixer, Musician, and Sound Designer Dave L's career spans a decade and includes albums, films, video games, television, cartoons, and live theater. From 1995 to the present, he has contributed music and/or sound design for over 30 titles ranging from games to film, commercials, live theater and music releases (see credits list for details).
Originally from Los Angeles, he was playing, writing, and recording music by age 13. While experimenting in his home studio, he picked up various instruments while with bands that ranged from metal, glitter rock, jazz,
punk, and funk, sharing the bill with artists such as Nina Hagen, The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Redd Kross. After living and traveling in Europe, he returned to California to study both classical and experimental composition, including the classical music of India and Indonesian Gamelan, at the California Institute of the Arts.
It was there--and as an assistant to film composer/synthesist Michael Boddicker--that he became inspired by the power and potential of both the recording studio and electronic music, a genre open to fusion, crossing boundaries, and a way to simultaneously combine his interest in music and sound design. Hungry for the artistic community, international culture, and general progressiveness of San Francisco, he moved to San Francisco in 1993 and started a small production studio with producer/musician Paul Scriver of Better Daze.
In 1995, after several multimedia projects and Paul's successful releases with Ubiquity Records, Shindig Sounds was closed when Dave and Paul decided to pursue different directions.
