Wendy Mullen
Wendy Ellison Mullen is the lead singer, rhythm guitar player, and main song writer for Late Summer Purple--a bluesy rock band playing in Seattle-area clubs and bars. They have performed twice at Bumbershoot, which Rolling Stone magazine calls the "Mother of all Festivals." Norm Langill, Bumbershoot's Director, says Wendy has "a voice like warm honey." Wendy won the Washington Blues Society's Robert Johnson blues contest with her haunting version of "Hell Hound Blues," and her music has been featured on VH1, Animal Planet, Discovery Channel, MTV, and in other venues.
While most people are awed by Wendy Mullen's barrel-house blues voice, they are equally impressed with her lyrical, legato lines in her gentler tracks. Her voice alternately soothes, cajoles, seduces, or lambasts the listener. Her versatility comes from her artistry -- and perhaps also from her classical training. (Sshhh! Don't tell!) Wendy's compositions vary from classic blues tunes to more complex multi-chordal songs. The commonality is the way the melody gets stuck in your head!
