This well known and well-loved piece from perhaps the best known and one of the most prolific composers of all time, is played competently here by pianist Pat Holmberg. This is a soothing, comforting prelude. Instrumental, Classical, Baroque, Johann Sebastian Bach
Hauntingly familiar, this piano piece has an unforgettable melody, and ranges in mood from whimsical and delicate to moving, lush and full in the style of the romantic period at its most wonderful. In ABA form, the 2 "A" parts are the calm ones, while the middle "B" part is fuller and a bit faster. Instrumental, Classical, Romantic, Claude Debussy
Ragtime piano, toe-tapping, fun, upbeat, cheerful, reminiscent of the "roaring twenties" in American history before the Depression. Lively and certain to raise a person's spirits. Instrumental, Jazz, Ragtime
This is classified as a 'novelty' tune, but it's very similar to early ragtime piano music. Composed in 1921 by Zez Confrey, there are places in this that sound just like a kitten bouncing into the keys and out again. It's very descriptive of that in a fun, tongue-in-cheek way. Instrumental, Jazz, Ragtime
This was a favorite standard of jazz musicians in the 30's and 40's-and to this day with groups who still play tunes from that era. It was used for sing-alongs in those days before TV when people would gather around an upright piano in someone's living room and sing for entertainment in the evenings, Instrumental, Americana, Americana
Christmas piano music, classic Holiday song with a religious theme, can also be sued for Christmas pop projects, this song has been covered by countless artists including America and Jewel. Instrumental, Christmas, Christmas Piano
Elegant and tender piano solo. A soft, simple rendering of this iconic and religious Christmas carol. Instrumental, Christmas, Christmas Piano
A popular two-step tune from the early 20th century, played here in a "stride" piano style. Has a good steady beat, and is great for singing along or dancing if you want to. Full of nostalgia from anyone born before 1935. Instrumental, Jazz, Ragtime
This is a World War 1 song - played here on acoustic piano without lyrics. The melody was widely known at the time and for many years later - it has a tenderness and nostalgia which comes through in this performance. Instrumental, Americana, Americana
A simple acoustic piano track with a memorable melody which is fairly familiar. It is from the album "Woodland Sketches" by early American composer Edward Macdowell. It has a nice fresh, clean, uncomplicated sound. Instrumental, Classical, Romantic
This is a charming piece from the early years of the Romantic period. It is lively and cheerful. There is enough repetition in it that it is a bit easier than many sonatinas for this period. Even with that repetition, though, it has a fresh, sparkling, upbeat personality. Instrumental, Classical, Romantic
Over a period of about 30 years, Edvard Grieg wrote 10 books of 'Lyric Pieces', with each book having from 6 to 8 pieces. They are short piano pieces, and each one is unique. They all reflect the fresh sounds typical of Grieg - distinctive melodies, strong rhythmic character, unmistakable moods, etc, Instrumental, Classical, Romantic, Edvard Grieg
In the minor mode, this is a fairly slow piece. It's uncomplicated melody line draws a listener in from the first note. The second half has a quicker bass line, adding interest, although the melody line on the top remains simple. It's a short piece, played here on acoustic piano. Instrumental, Classical, Baroque, George Frideric Handel
Henry Purcell's dates are 1659-1695. He died when Bach, Handel and Scarlatti (who were all born in the same year) were ten years old. This short, simple minuet was composed in a group with some others short pieces as incidental music for an opera. It has a strong melodic line. Instrumental, Classical, Baroque
This piece is quick and energetic. It has basically a 'drone' bass (similar to a musette in that way) upon which sits a cheerful upbeat melody. It is played here on acoustic piano, rather than on the harpsichord, for which it was originally written. Instrumental, Classical, Baroque
Who would not want to dance while listening to this cheerful, upbeat track? It is a waltz, and waltzes just seem to bring people to their feet and make them start moving in time to the rhythm. Instrumental, Classical, Romantic
Often used in children's Sunday School classes, this upbeat uplifting 'jazzy' tune is one that will keep going through your mind. Played here on acoustic piano in a jazzy style, it's great for sing-alongs. Instrumental, Spiritual, Traditional Gospel
This is a calm piece played on acoustic piano (though written for harpsichord long before the piano was developed). It's minor, though goes into the major mode for a time in the middle of this short piece. It has a nice running melody and is short and simple. Instrumental, Classical, Baroque
This is a very energetic keyboard piece played here on acoustic piano. It just keeps going through all kinds of harmonic changes, leaving a listener a bit breathless by the time it's over. Instrumental, Classical, Baroque
This is an energetic piece in 9/8 time. In typical Bach fashion, it is full of sequences and patterns which repeat on different notes and in different registers, sometimes truncated and sometimes elongated. Instrumental, Classical, Baroque, Johann Sebastian Bach
This is in 3/4 time, the same meter as you'll find in a waltz. However, it moves a bit faster than most waltzes. It just flits around, the same as a fairy does - moving quickly and lightly, without stopping to look around. Instrumental, Classical, Romantic, Edvard Grieg
This has a playful beat, but is not fast. There is a distinctive melody throughout - it's in ABA form - minor mode for the 2 A sections, and it goes into the major mode for the B part. Has a nice lilt. Instrumental, Classical, Romantic, Edvard Grieg
This is a short, simple piece which sounds rather stately and as if it could be used for a graduation or other commemorative occasion, maybe as a processional. Instrumental, Classical, Romantic, Edvard Grieg
Kuhlau was born 5 years before Mozart's death, so as a child he was exposed to that classical tradition. He was born in Germany, but as an adult he emigrated to Denmark and became a Danish citizen (to avoid being drafted into the Napoleonic armies). Instrumental, Classical, Classical
This rather short piece from Tchaikovsky's 'Album for the Young' is descriptive of a bird chirping. With that little 'chirping' motif, that master composer creates a melody which continues throughout, with only a few measures that are a little different. Instrumental, Classical, Romantic, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
