Henry Purcell's dates are 1659-1695. He died when Bach, Handel and Scarlatti (who were all born in the same year) were ten years old. This short, simple minuet was composed in a group with some others short pieces as incidental music for an opera. It has a strong melodic line. Instrumental, Classical, Baroque
This is a calm piece played on acoustic piano (though written for harpsichord long before the piano was developed). It's minor, though goes into the major mode for a time in the middle of this short piece. It has a nice running melody and is short and simple. Instrumental, Classical, Baroque
This short acoustic piano track has a lovely, simple melody with a single-line flowing accompanying pattern underneath. It is singable, unpretentious and beautiful. Instrumental, Classical, Romantic, Robert Schumann
One quality of the composer Schumann was the ability to convey strong moods and emotions in the music he wrote. This track is typical of that strength of his, and while being short and simple, one can barely keep from weeping upon hearing it. It is in the minor mode. Instrumental, Classical, Romantic, Robert Schumann
This is a simple, lovely, tender piece for acoustic piano. Robert Schumann and his wife Clara (the world's first woman concert pianist) had eight children, and this is one of many that he wrote for his children to listen to and to play. This one portrays a wonderfully innocent view of the world. Instrumental, Classical, Romantic, Robert Schumann
A nice warm melody on this track, combined with the title makes one wonder if perhaps Schumann was thinking of this wife at the time. Their love story is one of the most famous in music history, and certainly she would have played this piece. Instrumental, Classical, Romantic, Robert Schumann
This is a short, simple acoustic piano track Schumann wrote for his children, depicting soldiers marching, exactly as the title says. It is energetic and rhythmic and just the perfect tempo for marching. Instrumental, Classical, Romantic, Robert Schumann
A familiar melody is on this track - loved by piano students through the years. Short, with a memorable, singable melody, this is happy music. Instrumental, Classical, Romantic, Robert Schumann
Short, staccato and upbeat, this is another of Schumann's compositions for children. This is supposed to depict a wild horseman, true to the title, and keeps up the energy throughout. Rhythmic and quick. Instrumental, Classical, Romantic, Robert Schumann
This is a charming piece from the early years of the Romantic period. It is lively and cheerful. There is enough repetition in it that it is a bit easier than many sonatinas for this period. Even with that repetition, though, it has a fresh, sparkling, upbeat personality. Instrumental, Classical, Romantic
This is a very energetic keyboard piece played here on acoustic piano. It just keeps going through all kinds of harmonic changes, leaving a listener a bit breathless by the time it's over. Instrumental, Classical, Baroque
This is a short, simple, two-line piece in the minor mode. There is definite melodic direction here, and it goes into the major mode for a short time in the middle, then settling back into minor. It is warm, comforting and uncomplicated - beautiful in its simplicity, Instrumental, Classical, Baroque
This is the first movement by composer Carlos Seixas (1704-1742). He was living and composing in Portugal at the same time that Bach (Germany) Handel (England) and Scarlatti (Italy) were doing the same. His music is clearly Baroque, but refreshingly different from those other three. Instrumental, Classical, Classical Piano
A restful, melodic piece in the classical tradition for acoustic piano. Nice use of contrapuntal effects. It tells a nice melodic story, and has warmth. Instrumental, Classical, 21st Century
This is one of some piano pieces I'm writing to honor close friends - both deceased and living. I've tried to capture in sound unique characteristics of them. Marshia had an infectious laugh, which I have tried to show in the middle part of this piece. First & last parts are more mellow & flowing. Instrumental, Classical, 21st Century
In Tchaikovsky's mind, this piece is descriptive of what its title says. It is expressive, building up to highs and back down again to quiet places. Short, uncomplicated and simple. Instrumental, Classical, Romantic, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
Bright and simple lively piano tune, ideal for children's projects, recitals, teaching lessons, lighthearted outdoor scenes of togetherness, etc. Instrumental, Classical, Romantic
Tchaikovsky was very clever at picking up the flavor of different nationalities in some of the music he wrote. This is a simple, short acoustic piano piece which is spirited and has a strong melody, and reflects a happy, perhaps beer-drinking, lederhosen clad crowd doing folk dances. Instrumental, Classical, Romantic, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
For acoustic piano, this is from Tchaikovsky's "Album for the Young". It has a very distinctive melody and style - reflecting a fabulous understanding of Italy's folk music. You could hear it being played on the street by an accordion player, although it was written for piano. Simple, uncomplicated. Instrumental, Classical, Romantic, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
This is a flowing, melodic, simple track. In true Tchaikovsky fashion, it has a memorable melody. It is cheerful and upbeat. Instrumental, Classical, Romantic, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
Mazurkas have their roots in gypsy music, and often are in the minor mode and seem to flit from sadness to a joyful quality, all with the same underlying steady beat. Chopin wrote many mazurkas for solo acoustic piano. This one by Tchaikovsky has a distinctive melody and typical mazurka rhythms. Instrumental, Classical, Romantic, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
For acoustic piano, this is a short, simple piece. However, in true Tchaikovsky fashion, it has a very distinctive, lovely melody, as well as some quietly moving parts under that melody which go together to make some lush, wonderful sounds. Instrumental, Classical, Romantic, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
Another of Tchaikovsky's memorable melodies is in this piece for acoustic piano. It captures the flavor of an Italian song.... one that maybe would be heard played by an accordion on the streets of Naples. It is short, simple and graceful. Instrumental, Classical, Romantic, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
We all know that Tchaikovsky's most well-known work is the Nutcracker Suite. It is full of lovely, memorable melodies, engaging rhythms & lush harmonies. What is not so well-known is the vast array of short, simple piano pieces which he wrote. This is one of those-flowing, minor & distinctly French. Instrumental, Classical, Romantic, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
For acoustic piano, this short, spirited polka by Tchaikovsky is part of his "Album for the Young". It has a distinct melody, typical of Tchaikovsky, and a toe-tapping rhythmic pattern. Instrumental, Classical, Romantic, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
A simple, singable, lovely melody here, flowing on top of an off-beat rhythmic pattern underneath. This is an acoustic piano piece from Tchaikovsky's "Children's Album". It is beautiful and memorable in its simplicity. Instrumental, Classical, Romantic, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
This rather short piece from Tchaikovsky's 'Album for the Young' is descriptive of a bird chirping. With that little 'chirping' motif, that master composer creates a melody which continues throughout, with only a few measures that are a little different. Instrumental, Classical, Romantic, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
Tchaikovsky's most famous waltz is "Waltz of the Flowers" from the Nutcracker Suite. This is a close second in making you want to put on your dancing shoes. It is lively and uplifting. Short, simple and for acoustic piano alone. Instrumental, Classical, Romantic, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
